Scholarships have been established for college-bound high school seniors at Lauren's alma mater, Wyomissing Area High School, Wyomissing, PA, and at Wilson High School, West Lawn, PA, where Lauren's father is a teacher. Scholarship selection criteria targets students who have faced (or are currently facing) adversity, yet continue to excel academically. The minimum award for each scholarship is $1,000.
Students applying for this scholarship are required to write an essay describing how the following quote from American poet Maya Angelou has impacted their lives: "I can be changed by what happens to me. I refuse to be reduced by it." Student winners are selected by a team of school officials and family members.
In 2007, a scholarship was established at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, where Lauren was enrolled in the school of Media Arts and Design as an interior design major. The first award from that scholarship was made in the fall of 2007.
Lauren's Scholarship Fund is managed by the Berks County Community Foundation, (BCCF) a fully-accredited, non-profit, IRS 501(c)(3) approved charitable organization. Contributions made to this fund through BCCF are fully tax deductible.
